Manuel Neuer, born on 27 March 1986, is a German professional goalkeeper who plays for Bayern Munich and Germany national team. He has got a lot of individual awards including Footballer of the Year in Germany in 2011 and 2014, IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper four times, UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year four times and AIPS Athlete of the Year in 2014.
Since September last year, Neuer has been sidelined and not played game due to his injury. At present, Neuer is back in training with Bayern Munich. He believes he will return to the game before the end of the season.
“This is a very important game for me,” said the 32-year-old goalkeeper. “I think Germany needs me. I also want to be a member of the German national team.” “Everyone wants to participate in the World Cup. I hope I can play games in the second half of the season. Of course, the most important thing is the game Germany national team plays this summer.”
When asked about his recovery, Neuer said:“It still takes a little time until the injury is fully recovered. I can’t immediately tell you exactly how long it will take to recover. I’m currently running on an anti-gravity treadmill at a speed of 5km/h, and the workload in training is increased day by day.”
Neuer had played games in the 2014 World Cup and helped the team get the title, but he needs to become better before the 2018 World Cup so as to get the nod from his manager Loew. Currently, there is one possible match that will be staged on May 12 for him to prove his fitness. Joachim Loew will unveil his provisional World Cup squad on May 15.
